Ugh. Sick here--am thinking I got it from the guy in the cube next to me, seems like a cold though my throat is fine so far. Drove home with the window down, the cold fresh air helped a bit for preventing puking in the car lol. Ugh ugh ugh. Have been sleeping off and on all evening, with time out for chicken soup a couple times.

Ugh.

As [personal profile] mirabile always says, it is *always* correct to punch a Nazi.

Apparently this is how we roll in Seattle.

We were not born in Cuiviénen by Lyra. Morwë tells Oromë about the origins of his people, contradicting some stories the Vala had heard earlier.

SWG September 2017 Challenge Ancestors

As we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the publication of The Silmarillion and in honor of Grandparents' Day, this month's theme is Ancestors. For this month's challenge, create a fanwork in which a character's resemblance or connection to an ancestor plays a central role. This challenge is completely open, without prompts, although feel free to use the comments to ask for or suggest more specific prompt ideas if you want.

Since I held off on announcing the new challenge because of Silmarillion40, then the deadline will be extended this month. If you want your fanwork to receive a creator stamp, it will need to be posted to the archive (or our DW or LJ for formats other than writing and podfic) no later than October 12. As with the Song of Exile, if you are writing for Silmarillion40 and wish to use the Ancestors challenge in your Silmarillion40 entry, please just let me know when you send in your Silmarillion40 piece, and I will award you your stamp.

I also never posted a links list for last month's challenge, Song of Exile. (We'll blame Silmarillion40 again for that too. ;) Click below the cut for list of last month's challenge entries and please consider leaving a comment if you enjoy an author's work! Remember that stamps for review challenges never expire, so you can keep adding to your stamp collection by showing love to our challenge creators if you want. However, if you need a reviewer stamp for May's Hero's Journey Matryoshka challenge or earlier, please let me know in a comment or an email to moderator@silmarillionwritersguild.org.

August Song of Exile Challenge Stories )

Some final housekeeping ... I have not begun stamps yet for the Song of Exile challenge. Let's blame Silmarillion40 again for that, shall we? As I settle into the daily routine of the collection (and as the school year settles into a routine too), I will begin working on this. I appreciate everyone's patience these last few chaotic months!

If you're new to our challenges, you can find full guidelines--as well as past challenges--here.

"For of the Maiar many were drawn to his splendour in the days of his greatness, and remained in that allegiance down into his darkness; and others he corrupted afterwards to his service with lies and treacherous gifts."
~The Silmarillion, Valaquenta

Day Two of the Silmarillion40 event brings Melkor's corruption (or seduction?) of others of the Ainur into his service, an influence that will echo throughout the ages.

Still in fifth position overall, 59 60 minutes out of first. Can I catch him up? Doubt it! Might try though that's probably not "skillful" behavior. Still human apparently lol.

Happy Friday. Man am I glad to get there. Going to make my reservations for the Sandpiper today. Sadly my friend can't join me but we'll try another time. So now I have to decide what room to get balanced with having to pay for the whole thing myself (translation -- probably won't put myself on the top floor like we usually do :-)

Silmarillion40

Happy 40th Anniversary, Silmarillion!

Today we are very pleased to announce the opening day of our Silmarillion40 compilation. Over the past couple months, about three dozen authors and artists have been busy creating more than eighty brand-new fanworks to celebrate the anniversary of our beloved Silmarillion. For the next forty days, we will unlock one or two fanworks per day and journey through The Silmarillion as told in fanworks.

Please check out today's fanworks and, if you like what you see, consider leaving the artist or author a comment.

Subcreation: A Collection by SWG Authors. Tolkien's theory of subcreation states that it is part of our deepest human nature to create secondary worlds. This collection of drabbles, ficlets, one-shots, and sketches follows the thread of subcreation across the span of the legendarium. (Ficlet Collection)

Hello. Here's a random list of good stuff. Life right now is incredibly stressful on a bunch of different axes so good to remember the good stuff.

- I'm fifth on the leaderboard out of 1,130 for the mindfulness challenge. I appear to be 58 minutes behind the leader if I'm reading it right. Probably can't catch him but I'm chasing his tail lol.
- Going to the beach next weekend, just for two nights but I need to get away. Fingers crossed a friend can join me but I'll go either way.
- Project Runway tonight!
- [personal profile] hanarobi sent me a wee cloisonne elephant and I clipped it to my work lanyard, which now has a number of things clipped to it in addition to my badge: elephant, steampunky magnifying glass, Star of David pendant, a wee ornamental flower.
- It's sausage and potato soup today for lunch! Yum!
